What to do in Grenoble, France on a Sunday

If you are not from France you will be surprised by the fact that basically everything is closed in Grenoble on a Sunday. So don't expect a nice shopping day because the city will be sleepy and silent. These are the recommendations on how to spend a day in Grenoble on a Sunday.

• Food. Do you need to visit the grocery store? They have open in the mornings and close by lunch. The absolute biggest one is Monoprix located in the mall Caserne Bonne. The Monoprix located at Rue Lafayette is also good but smaller. 
• Food market. A nice activity can be to visit one of the food markets, I recommend you to go to the one located under the train rails at Rue Joseph Rey. Here you can find local farmers selling their harvest but also more international foods, grilled chickens, olives etc. Come here early! 9 am is OK, at noon its already closed.

• Brunch or breakfast. There are a few places for brunch or breakfast but the nicest one is Pain et Cie, lots of people and you will feel like you are having a normal Sunday in any European city. 
• Museum. The museum of Grenoble should be good ( I have not been there myself) in presenting art but please be aware that basically everything in the museum is in French. That they are open on Sunday's is a plus.

• Cinema. To go to see movie is a good option on a Sunday! There are a few places but the cinema located at Chavant is the biggest. You don't have to book a ticket online, there are usually seats left over. Especially if you want to see the movies that don't have s voice cover in French. The English speaking movies has the note "VO". 
• Have a walk. The city is very nice and as a newcomer you can fill you memory card in your camera during one day. I recommend to have a walk up to the Fort de la Bastille that is located on the hill above Grenoble. If you are sporty you walk/run the way up and if you are more convenient you take the "eggs". It's an amazing view from there over Grenoble.

• Go skiing. Grenoble is just 20 minutes away from the closest ski resort. The absolute easiest way to go skiing if you don't have a car is to buy a ticket that includes the bus ticket and ski pass with a reduced price. I found a really good website summarizing the options with all the links you will need. You can also visit skiligne directly. You purchase the ticket online, preferably in a few days in advance, Saturday's and Sunday's are popular ski days, and you print the ticket and bring it to the bus station where you pick up your ski pass before getting on the bus. Be there well in advance, sometimes there is a 30 min q to just pick up the ski pass, and you don't want to miss your bus.

Easy aioli recipe // Enkelt aioli recept // Receta de Aioli facil

There are thousands of recipes of how to make your own aioli, they claim they are simple but this one is actually even more simple! We promise! No adding olive oil drop by drop, here you just add everything at once and mix!

Aioli goes well to seafood like shrimps or soup, but it's also a popular side dish during the barbecue season. So, instead of purchasing an expensive aioli in the supermarket, that also contains scary add-ons to make it last longer, make your one in just a few minutes!

Ingredients basic aioli (2-3 people)
1 egg // ägg // huevo
Olive oil (slightly more than the full volume of the egg) // Olivolja // aceite de oliva
2 garlics cloves // vitlöksklyftor // diented de ajo
Salt // Salt // Sal
Black Pepper // Peppar // Pimienta
Red paprika powder // paprika pulver // especia de paprika

How to do:
Put the egg and slightly more olive oil (all at once) than the egg into a bowl. Mix with a mixer.
When the egg and olive oil is mixed, add the garlics, salt, pepper and red pepper power, continue until the garlics are completely mixed.

 Add garlic, salt, pepper and red paprika powder, mix!

Done! Its so easy!

If you are not happy with the thickness of the aioli, just add more olive oil (all at once) and mix again.

And of course you can experiment do add, chili, lime or whatever touch you would like to have on your homemade aioli.

Must see in Stockholm Sweden during summer // Beridna högvakten 2015

The city of Stockholm, the capital of Sweden hides many treasures during summer. The city is surrounded by water and the different parts of the city center all have their separate charms.

There is plenty of museums, locations, restaurants and bars to visit, but there is one activity which is absolutely stunning if you happen to see it.

During summer the military of Sweden swap the guards at the royal castle every now and then by riding from the stable, through the city center, to the royal castle.

 They stop traffic and create somewhat delay in the normal order but if you happen to stroll the street and suddenly start to hear march drums and music playing I promise you that it's worth the small chaos it creates.

So why hope to see this small event when you can plan it! The military have a schedule and a map for you to know when they will take their horses to the royal castle. Either you wait by one of the streets in the city or you take your position at the royal castle to see them come and look at their swap of guards, which is a small performance itself.

At the website you see "Avmarsch från Kavallerikasern" which is when they leave the stable, different times depending if it is a weekend or a weekday. And "Vaktavlösning vid Slottet" is when they aim to reach the royal castle to perform the swap.

And I found this one that we absolutely have to share, this is a more arrange show by the military playing music. If you happen to know the Swedish house group Swedish House Mafia you will be incredible impressed, this gave me chills!

Two reasons for our absence, golf classes and swap of job.

Tonight I once again sacrificed a few hours to golf and it was a beautiful evening. Birds singing, sunshine even though its 8 pm, beautiful rainbows (two!!) and spring flowers blossoming.
